US Critical Language Scholarships - Free Summer Travel
The US State Department funds a lot of travel programs to foster harmony amongst foreigners with Americans and what not, and most scholarships at first glance seem to be targeting foreigners. There, is, however, one really valuable scholarship that I just found. It includes full travel, board, education, etc. for those willing to study ‘critical languages’ intensively during the summer months. Again, I said free travel, not to mention the free career development and skills.
This Critical language scholarship relatively new program funds studies for students for 7-10 weeks abroad. Unfortunately, the deadline has passed to apply (Novemberish) but for students planning way ahead, this is a great opportunity to keep in mind.
The languages allowed to study are, in some cases, kind of obscure, so don’t plan on utilizing your high school French or Spanish in this program. Here is the list of critical language programs, and they include Arabic, Bangla/Bengali, Hindi, Punjabi, Turkish Urdu, Chinese, Korean, Persian, Russian, and Azerbaijani.
I bet the program will be around for awhile under Obama and Hilldawg, and programs such as these temporarily make me feel as if my taxes are being put to good use. So mark your calendar and if you find any other sweet State Department deals let me know.

At last some novelty of approach is visible...it's a great idea to encourage students study the critical languages listed here both for their cultural value, enhancement of career skills and, of course, travel....what more can one ask for?
Sounds like a pretty sweet deal for the students, not sure how much they would pick up in a 7-10 week period especially with some of the more obscure languages. Thanks for the info though, good post.
It's a great encouragement to students. They can enter the language scholarships and can get a free summer travel. I liked this idea of encouraging the students which will help them to learn critical languages and also will give them an opportunity to travel free.
Again am saying that its a great idea to do language scholarship from US...What you say?
