Trip Announcement - Studying Abroad in Bangkok, Thailand
A while ago I received news that I was accepted to study abroad in Bangkok, Thailand (application covered here) for the upcoming fall academic session starting sometime in August 2009 - December 2009. I will be studying at Thammasat University and traveling all around Southeast Asia in my spare time, which should be plentiful.
Thammasat University is set in the heart of Bangkok, nearby the famous backpacker’s haven Khao San Road, the recent Red Shirt riots, and the Grand Palace. All, I’m sure, will be covered in greater detail in my upcoming travels.

For Housing, I won’t be finding an apartment until I arrive in Bangkok August 1st, but from my prior research, I will more than likely living nearby across the river in some complexes that will run me about $300 a month, a steal compared to urban living downtown in major US cities.

While abroad, I’ll surely be updating Budget Globetrotting with relevant, practical, objective articles regarding my experiences and things to do in Thailand and throughout Southeast Asia, but I am also creating a self containted travel journal which will be a bit more personal for friends and family. Bangkoking: Bangkok, Thailand American Student & Expat blog (albeit temporarily). So I invite you to follow me there as well if you want a more personal story of me studying abroad.
But I’ll have a whole series of posts stemming from my study abroad adventures covering a variety of topics, including:
- Guide to Flashpacking
- Saving on International Flights
- Packing for Asia
- Travel Budget for Asia
- anything and everything to do with SE Asia and Thailand
So check out Bangkoking and if you happen to live in Asia or be traveling there between August-December and want to get together, be sure to get in touch with me!

Bangkok is a wonderful city......to study here is also cool and experiencing different things.
I look forward to following your updates. I, too, and heading for Asia soon. My first stop is South America though. It will be nice to listen to your stories and tips, that way I can be prepared when I reach Asia!
