What’s Going on at Budget Globetrotting

By Nick June 6, 2008

It’s about that time. It seems like every 9 months I sit down and decide the change something and try to take this blog in a better direction. No promises, but what I have in store:

1. New Writer:

Josh is moving on to big and better projects, which is unfortunate since he’s done a great job here. Fortunately, I got it taken care of right away, so some new writers will be starting in the next week or so.

2. New Design:

Thought I’d comment on the obvious. I like it a lot better, and I hope you do to. Gives me more area for featured articles and definitive guides. I’ll be putting out some timeless, pillar articles to try to cover all the basics of budget traveling, from guidebooks and hostels to the best online travel tools and resources. The new design will help new readers navigate and find things faster.

3. Updated Pages:

I updated my long overdue pages in the menu at the top. Including the about and advertising. I added a new section regarding real world issues that we all should be eager to act on because it’s something I feel the world traveler type may have a great interest in.

4. Skewed direction:

As mentioned above, I’ll be focusing on creating pillar ‘how to’ articles and long list articles to help everyone. Blogging will still be going on, but I’m more excited about the new articles in the immediate short term.

5. New features

I’m considering adding some new features, but nothing’s for sure yet. I’ve thought about adding a travel consulting service where actual credible travel experts can consult you on your itineraries and guide beginners when they are planning their trips. There would be a very modest fee for the service. I’m not sure this would go over very well, but if you’re interested in consulting or think you’d like this type of service, contact me or leave a comment please.

I will also start something to let people submit their tips, stories, and photos. I may reward them for doing so as well.

6. My Future Travels

I’m looking at going to Latin America this winter instead of Europe this summer, unfortunately. I didn’t do what was necessary to have the finances available, and I did not have luck finding sponsors. But I’m determined to get to Latin America, or atleast Colonial Mexico, this upcoming winter since I could probably pull it off for a meager $600.

I’m looking for some emails through my contact form or some comments or suggestions. If my ideas suck, just say so.
