Low Cost Airline Battle in Europe

May 21, 2007

The low cost airline battle in Europe continues to heat up as nearly every budget European airline now offers discounts to lure summer travelers. So if you’ll be flying around inside of Europe this summer, you are in luck. The airlines publicly cutting airfares include easyJet, RyanAir, British Airways, and Bmibaby. Below is an airfare savings comparison chart for these European budget airlines.

Backpackers .com had a short and sweet post on BmiBaby entering into the low cost European airline battle, so I thought I’d arrange their intel into an easier to read table for my budget traveler readers.

RyanAir RyanAir will offer 10 million European Flights with airfares between £10 and £20 ($20-40). They also offered one million free flights, but that deal expires Midnight on May 21.
British Airways Brisih Airways is offering up to 20% off on selected European flights every day this summer. This seems like one of the best promotions because it will be running all summer, and has no expiration approaching soon.
BmiBaby Bmibaby has lowered prices to 20 major European travel destinations. In some cases, airfares are slashed up to 30%. Unfortunately, these low airfares expire after May 22, 2007.
easyJet They previously offered 20% selected European flights (offer ended May 1), but they are now advertising good discounts on several European flights, including Madrid, Bilbao, Marseille, and Barcelona.

These deals are all great for backpackers and budget travelers, and be sure to keep an eye out for some more deals to come. Since most of the early promotions have ended, or are about to expire, I think the next wave of summer travel savings will approach sometime in the next month.

In addition to the low cost European airline airfare battle, Expedia is having a summer vacation sale of its own, offering up to 30% off on hotels, car rentals, and activities. So whether you’re looking for cheap European flights or a hotel in Chicago, this summer should be full of savings for the budget traveler.

They've got potential but still have a long way to go.

  4. Walter, how does wegolo work?

It seams no where near as complete in coverage as kayak, skyscanner or momondo.

    I'd still prefer these.
