Caribbean Islands Cricket World Cup Travel Easy
By Nick February 3, 2007
The Caribbean Islands are the place to be from March 5 to April 28, as they will play host to the ICC Cricket World Cup, for 47 entire days! Now, as a disciplined budget traveler, I don’t expect you to stay for the entire duration, but The ICC Cricket World Cup in the Caribbean has a lot to offer this year, including…
Loosened Travel Restrictions
For this world class sporting event, many Caribbean nations have loosened their travel restrictions. These countries (listed below) have all agreed to waive the requirement of visas to travel there, thus allowing a much easier flow of travelers and cricket fans between the countries. Now, a quick, hassle free ferry ride between islands will not result in an extended customs check.
Participating Caribbean Countries:
- Barbados
- Antigua and Barbuda
- Dominica
- St. Lucia
- Trinidad and Tobago
- Grenada
- St. Vincent and The Grenadines
- Guyana
- Jamaica
- St. Kitts and Nevis
If you’re not into Cricket, but instead want to take advantage of the loose travel laws you are also in luck, since every traveler to the participating countries will be free from the visa requirement.
Broadening Horizons through Travel
By watching the Cricket world cup, you could effectively conquer rules two and three from How To Travel: Have an open mind & Learn. I’m not going to lie, I don’t know what cricket is. I’m assuming most Americans don’t either. I only know one person who is familiar with cricket, and that person grew up in St. Lucia and is 100% Caribbean.
When he tried to explain the sport to me, I was baffled by how the game works and by all of its rules. It seems like an intriguing sport that would be awesome to watch (for awhile at least, not several days on end). Being able to watch the ICC World Cup when it’s in our back yard will probably never happen again soon, since the event only occurs once every four years.
Now that I have hopefully planted the idea of a budget backpacking trip to the Caribbean into your little mind, I will end this post abruptly. I will soon follow this post with another article giving budget travel tips and perhaps a budget friendly itinerary for a potential Caribbean escape this spring.
