Budget Travel Tips Forgotten by Guidebooks
Newly redesigned Brave New Traveler has a great post titled Budget Travel Tips You’ll Never Read in a Guidebook. These travel tips are just as the title suggests: original and unable to be found in standard guidebooks. Why? Well, some may call them “dirty” tips, and others may call them creative. I think they’re just creative budget travel tips.
Here are three of the five budget travel tips mentioned with my own little commentary. To see all five check out the article.
Go Commando
Save some money and go a few more days without washing your clothes. Usually the absence of clean underwear is the signal to finally wash your clothes, but by going commando (wearing no underwear) you can put off the washing for a couple more days. This is one of the more dirty budget travel tips I’ve heard in awhile.
Borrow or Trade Food in Hostels
Befriend a few hostel guests and see if they won’t give you a few pieces of bread for some toast. Or easier yet, offer to trade some of your rich chocolate milk for their cereal, since the chances of you drinking an entire half gallon of milk are pretty slim anyways.
Beg for Donations on your own Travel Blog
Start a blog for your trip and make sure all of your friends and family members know about it. Update it regularly, entertain everyone, and throw in a few sob stories about not having much money. Then set up a Paypal account to accept donations. It’s that easy!
If you need hosting, a design, or a free high quality site, I can help you out. I may even be able to pay you to set up your own travel blog. If you’re looking to set up a travel blog, contact me for details.
But be sure to head on over to the original article linked to above to check out the other helpful budget travel tips. Madeleine also discusses the tips in a much more entertaining fashion than I, so check out the article.
I think that's a pretty useful guidebook. A lot of people, especially travelers like me, need a copy of that. Great info. Thanks.
