Just a look at the prices of traveling in Guatemala and you may consider it for your next budget travel or backpacking trip. Here’s an awesome list of prices I found covering a traveler’s necessities while traveling in Guatemala.

Guatemala has long been a backpacker’s favorite destination due to its great sights and budget friendliness. Tim Leffel, on his awesomely informative Cheapest Destinations blog discusses the recent prices of different accommodations, dining, and other important things travelers and backpackers need. He was just there, so I’ll take his word on the subject matter. Here are a few of the most important items on the list. (for me at least)

  • $1 - High speed internet, one hour
  • $2 - A Drink (beer/rum) in a bar
  • $3 - Local restaurant meal
  • $5 - Bottle of store rum (that’s more like it)
  • $12 - The backpacker special hotel room
  • $50 - Nice family oriented hotel room

Make sure you check out his original Guatemala budget travel prices post above, since he includes more prices for travel necessities like transportation and bananas. (Bananas are necessary in Guatemala)

Not to mentions Guatemala is an absolutely beautiful country, with amazing beaches, Mayan ruins, and really genuine people. Definitely a great option, and one that is often overlooked by budget travelers! Great post Nick!
