Travel Agent or Online Booking
By Nick September 11, 2006
The question of whether to book flights, hotels, and car rentals with a travel agent or online is one that has been plaguing competent computer users for the last several years now. The question has been asked many times, and the answers that you get in response usually consist of a personal bias of the answerer.
I planned on setting up a little controlled experiment, but honestly, I did not want to waste the time of travel agents who are probably working on commission anyways. They deserve only to have customers who actually plan on going on a trip.
Personally, I think travel agents are the way to go. They usually have the best deals and offer you a safety net of sorts. Instead of backing up my personal convictions, refer to Why A Travel Agent is Better Than Expedia. It pretty much has all the reasons that I support using a travel agent.
But booking a vacation isn’t rocket science, but make sure that you do not get had. Whenever I see a price quote from a travel agent, I’ll check expedia and travelocity to see if it is rational, but most of the time it beats online agencies.
Summary: use an agent, double check them, and save some time planning your trip.

If I had a travel agent I can trust, I will probably go for it. However, since I have yet to find one, I just scour the net for the best deal possible.
Whichever way a traveler goes (travel agent or online), it is always best (like what you said) to double check.
Ah, good point. Luckily, AAA travel is really reputable here. I haven't heard of anyone having problems with their agents.
