Costa Rica - Travel guide from the enlightened one

August 24, 2006

The Arizona Daily Star has a column that includes a great travel overview of Costa Rica. The column was written by the enlightened one himself (or so we are led to believe)…Arthur Frommer. But I trust the AZ Star, and the article is a good read. So I’ll attempt to give a rough summar of a trip to Costa Rica, based on the article.

You WILL fly into San Jose, Costa Rica’s capital. I’m pretty sure about this because it’s the only international airport in the area. Then you’ll spend the night at a hotel there, probably close by.

After spending a night in San Jose, (more…)

Romania Travel 1 - Bucharest

August 22, 2006

Now is the time to visit Romania. Now it is cheap, genuine, and real. As the country enters the EU in 2007, some of these characteristics may diminish. This is my first short entry on Romania covering Bucharest. My next entry about Romania will pertain to its Black Sea Resorts.
Romania’s capital Bucharest is known as a little Paris because of its beautiful boulevards and buildings. In Bucharest, there are plenty of things to do. The top attractions are: (more…)

10 worst things about Budget Travelling

August 19, 2006

My favorite list that I found through the Problogger list project was “Ten Things I Hate About Budget Traveling”

A few of my favorites from the list are

2.Finding what seem to be the best thing you could ever own at the best ever price which you do not have the budget for.

4.The ++ after a price. Why can’t they just advertise using the price we need to pay in the end?

So check out the 10 worst things about budget travelling at Europe String.

The Budget Travel wishlist of Moi

August 16, 2006

Problogger is having a new group writing project that I think would be beneficial to participate in since I am a new Darren Rowse disciple. This writing project is “Lists” so decided to create…
My Budget Travel Wishlist - I’ll limit it to only seven right now

1. Typical “Backpack through Europe” - The typical 20-something backpacking trip through Europe making stops at the usual places. Sleep on the Eurail, stay in hostels, go to bars, and a lot of wandering aimlessly.

2. Backpack through Thailand and Indochina - Hitting all the stops in Southeast Asia. What I consider a more advanced trip because of the more drastic cultural differences. A little more hippy, and a lot less expensive.

3. Peru!- Lima and whatever else is close by in Peru. I’d see a local shaman, stay in a hostel, and enjoy the strong dollar in the exchange rate. Peru would also help me brush up on some Spanish skills I have.

4. Bora Bora - Tahitian relaxation. Ok, I know, not exactly budget…so maybe I’ll find an employer to pay for it? But staying in one of those bungalows over the water looks like too much fun.

Bora Bora

5. Chile - One more trip to practice a little Spanish. Looks like a cool place. I’d like to walk around in Santiago and go snowboarding.

6. Russia + Ukraine - Check out my ancestry roots and enjoy the old world charm in Kiev, Ukraine.

7. Prague + Vienna + Bratislava - More eastern Europe. It’d be nice to see these places in the winter. The temperatures aren’t too bad, considering what I’m accostomed to in the winter.
So there it is. I could probably put about thirty other destinations on here, but that wouldn’t be cool.

New feed in Feedburner feeds.feedburner.com/ budgetglobetrottingblog

August 15, 2006

Well my feedburner problem with my RSS feed spiraled out of control. So I created a new feed. I feel bad for dropping the subscribers that I had before, but I think that hte redirects will lead them back to my blog for this new feed.

So my new burned feed is http://feeds.feedburner.com/budgetglobetrottingblog. I definitely won’t be messing with the permalink structures anymore, because it caused a lot of unwanted trouble.

This experience just reminded me of the supreme powers held by the rss and 2.0 gods. Beware.

71 Most expensive (least expensive too) Cities List

August 15, 2006

I am a little late to the party, but UBS (Switzerland’s major bank - Union Bank of Switzerland) came out with a list of the 71 most expensive cities to live in. It is rather predictable, but it is nonetheless interesting to look through.

The list doubles as a budget traveller’s destination list by just flipping the list around. So Kuala Lumpar is actually number one. But really, it is a good reference when finding destinations to visit where you can get by on a few dollars a day. (more…)
